Utterly Bemused
By blog on Jun. 26, 2009.
In my attempts to keep myself continuously amused, I check over Fail Blog daily. Always good for a chuckle, sometimes even a guffaw! Occasionally you will see questions from answers.Yahoo, and most of the time, they are blatantly fake. Today I happened across a wonderful little nugget. A fishy nugget if you will, where someone had ostensibly asked the question as to how they might become a mermaid.
What in the heck!?
I thought, no, this has to be fake! So I quickly Google searched it, and oh my goodness, you would not believe the amount of people asking about this, claiming to have had ’side effects’ from trying spells to do this, and some who claimed outright that they had done it. I was constantly waiting for the ‘I know this is just imagination’ or ‘I am just pretending’ but I didn’t see that anywhere! Sadly, I was also waiting for the ‘I am a mermaid, and you can be one too, for just £99.99′ but thankfully I didn’t see that. Though to be honest, I didn’t check all that much.
What I did notice from my cursory, and a little bit appalled, glance, was the abundance of references to a Disney program, H2O Just Add Water. I want to blame Disney, but it isn’t their fault, I suppose. I know that children have wild imaginations, and that’s partly what makes them cool, but surely our younger generation doesn’t think this is really going to happen for them? Well obviously they do, and that is really, genuinely sad. Even this surly chap would never, ever, want to see the realisation dawn across a little face that they can’t, in fact, become a mermaid.
My goodness, my mind just did a little tumble in my head at that last sentence. In all my years of life, I never thought I would say that, or write it. Oh how odd. I have to go nap now.
